High school request for a letter grade change to “Pass” or “No Pass”

Dear OUSD High School Families,

It is our hope that you are enjoying your summer. We wanted to take the time to provide you with information regarding a grade change component of Assembly Bill 104 (new Education Code section §49066.5 (2)(b)). Assembly Bill 104 provides high school parents/guardians and adult students in grades 9-12 during the 2020-2021 school year with the option to request for a letter grade change to “Pass” or “No Pass” for academic grades earned during the 2020-2021 school year. If you would like to request for such a change please complete the Grade Change Application attached to this letter and submit the form to your High School. The application must be received by August 12, 2021 in order to be accepted and processed.

Please keep in mind that many post-secondary institutions are no longer requiring or considering SAT and/or ACT scores, college admissions will be focusing more on student transcripts. Although the bill requires that the Cal State University system not penalize students for “Pass/No Pass” grades for admission purposes, there is no corresponding requirement for the University of California or any other public or private institutions.

Respectfully,

Mercedes Lovie, Ed.D.

Associate Superintendent of Educational Support Services

For the 2020–21 through 2023–24 school year, the following postsecondary institutions will accept, for admission purposes, a transcript with a Pass or No Pass grade instead of a letter grade for an applicant pursuant to Education Code Section 49066.5(b).

Atentamente,

Dra. Mercedes Lovie

Superintendente Adjunta de Servicios de Apoyo Educativo
