Welcome to Ms. Gunn's Counseling site!
As Mission Elementary school counselor, I aim to create a culturally responsive, safe space and strengthen my students' social and emotional awareness. I am here to provide motivational, solution-focused, growth mindset counseling that led to positive behavior and academic outcomes.
This will be my second year working with your future leaders, and I am excited to be a part of their journeys. I will interact with students in multiple ways, such as classroom and guidance lessons focusing on self-awareness, self-regulation, and social-emotional techniques. In order to enhance the skills your students are being taught; I will send a parent newsletter with information on the topics to help improve their understanding of how to use the techniques in the school setting as well as in their everyday lives.
During the school year, I will be conducting lunch brunch and group counseling that will function for different purposes. Lunch brunch will be focused on different topics weekly, or bi-weekly; it will be a time for students to connect in a safe environment. Group counseling will focus on targeted issues such as grief, self-motivation, esteem, socializing with peers, and topics teachers, parents, or administrators feel are essential to improving positive student outcomes. I will notify parents if I am running a group that will enhance their students' growth, and I am always open to conducting groups parents want to see take place.
In addition to classroom/guidance lessons, lunch brunch, and group counseling, I will be providing short-term individual counseling to students. These sessions will focus on improving students' skills and outcomes. Mission Elementary has a long-standing partnership with Palomar Family Counseling Services (PFCS); I will refer students for long-term individual counseling or family counseling. If you feel your child needs someone to talk to, or if you would like to know more about my role as a school counselor, please reach out.
Finally, I hope to support parents and guardians as best as possible. Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for being a part of our family at Mission Elementary School.
