What's Expanded Learning?
Expanded Learning Programs, also known as Extended Day (previously Before and After School) programs, are California grant-funded programs that provide engaging learning and enrichment opportunities that prepare students for college, career, and life.
This program is created by partnerships between Oceanside Unified School District and local community organizations to ensure that students in grades TK-12 have a safe and welcoming environment to learn, thrive, and grow. Our purpose is to expand learning opportunities and build on the rigorous academic program that students receive during the school day. Our partners are experienced providers and bring a unique skill set and program model that integrate academic support and recommendations from our students and school community.
Program staff design and implement activities that engage active learning, support collaborative partnerships, and are innovative and creative. This can be through athletics, project-based learning, STEAM, or critical thinking activities. Students engage in interactive games and projects that integrate math and literacy skills throughout the program. They also explore different career interests, clubs, leadership roles, and mentorship opportunities. Students build healthy relationships with their peers and have options when needed to seek additional support to address their social-emotional health through art, physical activity, and team building.
Academic and Enrichment support is provided by the following providers:
- ASAP-After School Achievement Program
- BASE-Before and After School Enrichment
- BGCO-Boys and Girls Club of Oceanside
