Hello everyone! My name is Mr. Brian Nguyen, and I am this year's PASS AmeriCorps mentor! After graduating from UCSD, I was a scientist doing research on COVID-19 vaccines. Eventually, I found myself missing the work I used to do, teaching first-generation and low-income students as a college student. Coming from that background myself, I decided to join Mission Elementary, dedicating myself towards the success of our students. As a mentor, I have the privilege of working with a select group of scholars, molding them into tomorrow's leaders. My hope is to give all my students a set of skills that they can use in and out of the classroom to find success. Whether it is academics, attendance, or behavior, I encourage my students to strive towards doing their best, one day at a time. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my program, and I hope to hear from you soon!
PASS (Promoting Achievement & Student Success) is a leadership and mentoring program that aims to help students make positive choices. The PASS AmeriCorps mentors serve as positive role models and are trained and placed at school sites, providing individual and group mentoring, discussions, tutoring, grades and attendance reviews, community service projects, guest speakers, and field trips. Students are mentored to become positive leaders in their school and community. The sky is the limit for our PASS AmeriCorps students!
*Administered by CaliforniaVolunteers and sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service
The PASS AmeriCorps mentor at Mission Elementary School will be providing services on site everyday.
