Property Use and Loss
Confiscated Student Items
All site handbooks should have a statement regarding the possible confiscation of electronic and personal items from students
- OUSD is not responsible if items are lost or stolen after confiscation
- If site administration decides that the missing item should be replaced:
- Parent must complete the corresponding form, Claim Against the Oceanside Unified School District 1310, and submit to site administration along with an original paid receipt
- A statement from site administrator should be attached stating why the claim should be paid and what the site account number will be use to charge the expense
Loss, Damage or Destruction of Personal Vehicle
If there is loss, damage or destruction of the personal vehicle of an employee:
- Reimbursement is covered under CSEA and OTA contracts:
- CSEA Article 17.5
- OTA Article 16.5
- District will continue to cover expenses according to the association contracts and subject to the deductibles and maximums
- Reimbursement up to $500 for uninsured costs related to loss, damage or destruction of vehicle parked on or adjacent to District property or being used to travel to assigned worksites during duty hours
- Employee Claim for Reimbursement for Loss, Damage or Destruction of Vehicle 9108
Loss, Damage or Destruction of Personal Property
If there is loss, damage or destruction of personal property of an employee:
- Reimbursement is covered under CSEA and OTA contracts
- CSEA Article 17.4
- OTA Article 16.4
- District will cover expenses according to the association contracts and subject to deductibles and maximums
- Reimbursement up to $250 for out-of-pocket loss, damage or destruction to personal property during duty hours
- Personal property is defined as eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, watches, clothing, employee-owned materials, or equipment used with prior written approval of the District

Theft/Damage/Vandalism of District Property
If there is theft, damage, or vandalism to district property:
- Follow the flow chart for contact info, process, etc.
- Sites must pay the $500 deductible, plus 20% of replacement cost of anything valued between $500 and $1000
- OUSD is not responsible for replacing items older than 5 years
- OUSD is not responsible for replacing donated items
