Superintendent Larry Perondi begins his fourth year leading the Oceanside Unified School District.  After first stepping into the classroom in 1975, the 2010-11 school year marks his 36th year in the field of education.  Prior to his appointment as OUSD Superintendent, Mr. Perondi served two years as the district’s deputy superintendent.

Throughout his career, he has held and managed a variety of classroom and administrative positions.  Before coming to Oceanside, Superintendent Perondi spent the majority of his education career serving the 43,000 student Sweetwater Union High School District in South San Diego County.  From 2002 to 2005, he held the post of Area Superintendent, overseeing 11 high schools and 13 middle schools. Along with directing the superintendent’s Executive Cabinet, Mr. Perondi managed Adult Education for more than 30,000 students.   

While in Sweetwater, Superintendent Perondi worked as the Director of Higher Academic Achievement Initiatives.  During this time, he developed the district’s “Compact for Success.” This educational reform initiative, the only one of its kind in the nation, guaranteed admission to San Diego State University for every Sweetwater District graduate between 2006 and 2009.   

From 1994 through 2001, Mr. Perondi served as Principal of Chula Vista High School, overseeing a staff of 200 and a student body of 2,200. His strong leadership and guidance led the school to a California Distinguished School award and a six-year WASC accreditation. Under his direction, CVHS was twice named a Grammy Foundation Award winner as an outstanding School for the Creative and Performing Arts.             

In 2005, the Sweetwater District named Perondi both Administrator of the Year and District Management Employee of the Year.  Mr. Perondi completed his B.A. in Social Science at San Diego State University in 1974 and earned his master’s in Educational Administration from Azusa Pacifica University in 1981.
