Since taking on his initial teaching position in 1975, Oceanside Unified School District Superintendent Larry Perondi has devoted more than 30 years of his life to the field of education. In July 2007, Perondi was promoted to chief administrator in Oceanside after serving two years as deputy superintendent for the district. 

Before arriving in Oceanside, Perondi spent the bulk of his career in various administrative positions with the Sweetwater Union High School District in San Diego County. From 2002 to 2005, he held the post of Area Superintendent, overseeing 11 high schools and 13 middle schools in the 43,000 student district. Along with directing the superintendent’s Executive Cabinet, Perondi managed Adult Education for more than 30,000 students.   

During his tenure in Sweetwater, Perondi, in his role of Director of Higher Academic Achievement Initiatives, developed the district’s “Compact for Success.” This one-of-a-kind in the nation educational reform initiative guaranteed admission to San Diego State University for every Sweetwater District graduate from the Classes of 2006 through 2009.   

Beginning in 1994 and through 2001, Perondi served as Principal of Chula Vista High School, directing a staff of 200 and a student body of 2,200. His strong leadership and guidance led to CVHS being named a California Distinguished School and a six-year WASC accreditation. Under his direction, the school was twice named a Grammy Foundation Award winner as an outstanding School for the Creative and Performing Arts.             

In 2005, Perondi was named both Administrator of the Year and District Management Employee of the Year in the Sweetwater Union High School District. He completed his B.A. in Social Science at San Diego State University in 1974 and earned his master’s in Educational Administration from Azusa Pacifica University in 1981.
