OUSD Mission: The mission of the OUSD is to ensure that every student graduates and has the ability to succeed in the global community.

OUSD Boundaries: The district covers approximately 66 square miles. It is bordered on the west along the Pacific Ocean, south on Vista Way, east on College Boulevard, and along the north at Camp Pendleton.  

Schools: As of the 2008-09 school year, the district operates 23 school sites:

  • 16 Elementary schools
  • 4 Middle schools
  • 2 Comprehensive high schools
  • 1 Alternative high school  

Enrollment: The OUSD is one of 42 public school districts located in San Diego County. Based on its enrollment, it is classified as a large-scale district.

Employees: The district employs 3,076 individuals, including full-time, part-time, substitute and temporary employees: 1,862 Certificated personnel (credentialed) 1,154 Classified staff 60 Administrators  

Budget: The preliminary general operating fund budget for the 2008-09 school year is $168 million, and the per pupil expenditure is $8,200.  

Modernization and Bonds: In June 2008, Oceanside voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition H (71%), a $195 million school bond measure. The monies generated from this bond will allow the district to continue the modernization process for 16 campuses, a renovation program that began with the passing of Proposition G (69%) in 2000, a $125 million measure.  

Transportation:

  • 69 bus routes in place
  • 83 buses in use by the district
  • 6,362 students transported per day, including special education students.
  • 1,045,488 miles driven annually  

School Age Attendance Requirements: California Ed. Code 48200 requires school attendance for all children between the ages of 6 and 18. Kindergarten is considered part of the regular school program. A child must be 5 years of age or older on or before December 2 to attend kindergarten, and must be 6 years old on or before December 2 to attend first grade.  

Special Education: Direct and support services are provided for students with disabilities ages 3 to 21. School teams collaborate with families to offer quality learning experiences.
